Internships at GSM
Application for the J-1 Internship at the German School Manhattan
German applicants must be actively enrolled in college or university for at least three semesters. The major has to match the internship, so typically it will be education (Lehramt). Our interns assist the teachers to prepare lessons and in the classroom and they also help with student supervision.
If you would like to apply, please send us your resume and the exact dates you wish for your internship. Our internships usually run for three months, but can also last longer, while the minimum commitment is six weeks. Our internships are unpaid and participants will have to organize their own accommodation.
Once you have received written approval as an intern by GSM, you will need to apply for the J-1 visitor visa, while still in Germany. You will begin this process by contacting one of these two CIEE partner organizations and fill out the DS-7002 document.
- Travel Works https://www.travelworks.de or
- College Council https://www.college-council.de
Once this is completed we will receive access and finish the document from our side.
You should not book your flight until you had your mandatory interview at a US consulate and received your visa. More detailed information about the J-1 Visa can be found on this website:
