Approach

At GSM Preschool, we blend the best of both worlds - proven teaching methods and curricula from Germany and the United States. Our bilingual, child-centered approach reflects both the German and New York State education standards, offering young learners a strong foundation in social, emotional, and cognitive development. Through play-based exploration, creative expression, and inquiry-driven learning, children are encouraged to ask questions, make discoveries, and develop independence. In our nurturing and engaging environment, our preschool educators guide children to express themselves confidently in both English and German while fostering curiosity, empathy, and joy in learning.

Benefits of a Bilingual Education

Bilingual education is the academic model of the future. Brain scans have shown that those who are bilingual have denser gray matter than their monolingual counterparts. Students starting GSM in Kindergarten without prior knowledge of German gain command of the language in a few months. A bilingual program is academically challenging by nature and fosters a culture of joyful learning.

GSM Team

Our preschool team is made up of experienced and passionate educators from around the world. Our German-speaking teachers come from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, bringing authentic language and cultural experiences into the classroom. Our English-speaking faculty teaches to modern standards of English Language Arts, nurturing a love for stories, communication, and creative expression. Together, both language departments collaborate closely to design an optimized bilingual learning experience that supports every child’s growth. With a strong focus on social-emotional development, our educators create an environment where children feel safe, valued, and confident to explore, play, and learn in two languages every day.

Community

GSM is growing into a meeting point for cultural exchange between multilingual families in downtown Manhattan. In addition to the after school program  for enrolled GSM students, the school offers an array of programs for non-GSM students, siblings, and learners who are hoping to study languages, music, theater and art.

Preschool Partners

Our partnered pre-schools enjoy preferred admission at GSM. These schools offer German immersion or German language classes that will support the transition into GSM's kindergarten. Having experience with German language instruction is not required for admission but is a great way to prepare.
